She Dolls With Dollies

Portraits taken from old films and magazines are anonymized: glowing tulips and thorny cacti swirl behind the cut-out silhouettes of human heads. Fragments testify to the proliferation of heroin in the 1970s, amid a dense universe of glamorous cinema and pop culture. The images are accompanied by a composition by Anna Clementi and Thomas Stern based on Kurt Schwitters’ 1944 poem Sie Puppt mit Puppen. It’s fragmented from the start, lines jostling each other until the words disintegrate and dissolve into an electronic beatbox sound carpet.
