Quentin Nolot, better known as Skinny Bouddha, is an artist and designer based in France. Their work centres on sound and VJing to tell stories. Their digital ecosystem brings to life performances imbued with a narrative that is by turns verbal and visual; words become movements and projected visuals, set against a poetic and electric soundscape.
During this piece, the artist embodies a creature controlled by motion sensors. A journey then begins through landscapes that evolve and metamorphose. Along the way, the creature encounters other entities who sometimes resemble it, sometimes ignore it, and sometimes strike up a dialogue with it. At times the narrative becomes clear; at others, nothing can be gleaned from these encounters.
I started with the idea of taking the audience by the hand and leading them on a journey through my thoughts. I have a whole personal folklore that has developed over the years, which is embodied in many of my artistic practices (performance, live machine and VJing). My mind has slowly processed all these inspirations, transforming them into dreamlike figures – sometimes imagined, sometimes even hallucinatory. This piece illustrates this intimate world through sight and sound, with moments that are sometimes contemplative and sometimes more dance-oriented.
