NON-LIEUX (a CJC/Punto de Fuga screening)

The Collectif Jeune Cinéma presents a set of experimental movies that have a strong connection with the absent ground or what Marc Augé has called in french les Non-lieux: places that don’t have a proper identity or historic event to rely on. Either they have been penetrated and transformed by Gordon Matta-Clark, Dennis Oppenheim or Philippe Van Wolputte, or they are meticulously scanned by Aglaia Konrad, Robert Todd and Emily Richardson, these territories play a contradictory role as they are at the same time the symbol of a construction and that of a ruin.Théodora Barat’s film Panorama Zéro opening the session, starts with a text of Robert Smithson in which the artist mentions a moment spent in Passaiac New Jersey where every building he sees becomes a monument; they all are buildings that will soon be facing their imminent destruction. Double exposures, lightening games, long travelings, documentary fictions, videos crossing genders, from the science-fiction to the crime thriller, all this interventions made in situ or intervened in the laboratory take us into a no man’s land, as an invitation to either loss or resurgence.
