Maïa Cybelle Carpenter

Maïa Cybelle Carpenter est une artiste de l’image en mouvement et une curatrice. Elle a travaillé en tant qu’assistante de direction dans plusieurs structures importantes. Elle a rejoint le Conseil d’Administration de Canyon Cinema en 2006,qu’elle préside désormais. Ses films et vidéos ont été montrés dans le monde entier par de multiples festivals et institutions : Ars Electronica, Rotterdam International Film Festival, Pacific Film Archives, Ontario Cinematheque, Anthology Film Archives, Exit Art Gallery NY, The British Film Institute, The Berlinale, The Taiwan Cinematheque, and PBS Television. Elle fut curatrice au Pleasure Dome de Toronto et pour la Cinémathèque de San Francisco, coordinatrice des programmations pour l’Anthologie Film Archive et programmatrice pour le Festival International du Film de San Francisco. Pendant plusieurs années, elle fut impliquée dans la “Phil Hoffman’s Independent Imaging Retreat” (lieu de résidence pour réalisateurs) au Mont Forest dans l’Ontario. Elle est titulaire d’un BA (1997) en Women’s Studies/Film Theory du Barnard College de l’Université de Columbia et d’un MFA (2001) en études filmiques du Art Institute of Chicago. Elle est membre depuis 2005 du Conseil Consultatif du festival de films courts Lunafest, dont les profits sont destinés à la lutte contre le cancer du sein. Elle travaille aujourd’hui comme assistante de direction pour l’entreprise Elevation Partners.

Maïa Cybelle Carpenter is a moving-image artist, curator and
professional Executive Assistant. She joined the Board of Canyon Cinema in 2006 and is currently the President of the Board. Her films and videos have been exhibited internationally including, Ars Electronica, Rotterdam International Film Festival, Pacific Film Archives, Ontario Cinematheque, Anthology Film Archives, Exit Art Gallery NY, The British Film Institute, The Berlinale, The Taiwan Cinematheque, and PBS Television. She has served as a visiting curator for the Pleasure Dome in Toronto, was the Programming Coordinator for
MIX NYC at Anthology Film Archives, a curator for SF Cinematheque and a programmer for the SF International Film Festival. She was involved for a number of years with Phil Hoffman’s Independent Imaging Retreat in Mt. Forest, Ontario. She has a BA (1997) in Women’s Studies/Film Theory from Barnard College, Columbia University and has a MFA (2001)
in Film from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has been on the Advisory Board of Lunafest since 2005, whose proceeds go towards the Breast Cancer Fund. She currently works as the Executive Assistant to the Managing Directors of Elevation Partners, Inc.
