Filipe Afonso

Filipe Afonso a étudié le cinéma à Lisbonne et à Prague avant de soutenir une maîtrise en nouveaux médias au FCSH-UNL (Nouvelle Université de Lisbonne). Il vit actuellement entre Lisbonne et Paris.
Son travail, diffusé dans de nombreuses structures à l’international, explore les différents modes de médiation (technologies,mass-medias, art, tourisme, religions, politique et économie) qui régissent les relations humaines. Il s’intéresse à notre rapport avec les technologies, et aux transformations contemporaines dont la production et la diffusion des images font l’objet.
Il est parallèlement programmateur et a collaboré avec des institutions telles que le Carpenter Center for the Arts, la Harvard University, le Salon de Montrouge, l’Anthology Film Archives, la Microscope Gallery, le Kassel Dokfest, la Cinémathèque portugaise, IndieLisboa, Cinéma du Réel, la Gaîté Lyrique, Pleasure Dome, etc.

Filipe Afonso is currently based between Porto and France and studied Cinema in Lisbon and Prague. He has shown his work, curated or collaborated - among others - with the Harvard Film Archive, Salon de Montrouge, Anthology Film Archives, Microscope Gallery, Kassel Dokfest, the Portuguese and Tel Aviv Cinematheques, Indielisboa, Artists Television Access, Platoon Kunsthalle, Collectif Jeune Cinema, Cinema du Reel, Centre Pompidou, Gaite Lyrique, Pleasure Dome and MIX NYC. Afonso's work explores different modes of mediation (technology, media, art, tourism, religion, politics and economy) between humans and what they see, hear, think and feel. Influenced by the way human beings interact with technology and how our access to images is being transformed, his work, even if it sometimes can be focused on a character, speaks of global and universal meanings for contemporary anxieties produced in these forms of mediation.
